I despise shopping. Especially for shoes. However, when it comes to getting a new Bible I can spend hours perusing online or my favorite Christian book shop. If you are in the market for a new Bible, here are a few of what I consider to be the best Bibles for women.
As followers of Christ, it’s important that we spend time in God’s Word each day.
“Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples;32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:31-32
God’s Word is our supreme source of truth. It is where we find strength, peace, comfort, joy, and life. Your personal Bible is an important tool in nurturing your relationship with the Lord.
As you begin to look for your perfect new Bible, there are a couple of things you want to think about.
The Best Version of the Bible for You to Use
When you start looking for a new bible, one of the most important things you want to consider is what version you want to use. There are tons to choose from. Depending on what you will be using your Bible for will depend on which version you choose.
If you are looking for a Bible for just reading, there are a couple of versions that read easier than others.
New Living Translation
Holman Chrisitan Standard
English Standard Version
New International Version
If you are looking for a Bible to use for Bible study, then I would recommend you go for a word-for-word translation. These versions aim to stick as closely as possible to the wording and grammatical structure of the original text.
New King James Version
New American Standard Version
English Standard Version
I, personally, have used the New American Standard Version for many years. I have more recently started using the English Standard Version and am enjoying this version as well.
Women’s Study Bible or Devotional Bible?
Another thing to consider is what you will be using your new Bible for. Do you want a Bible that includes devotional notes, prayers, and commentary? Or would you prefer a study Bible for women?
I, personally, like my study Bibles to not include additional notes and commentaries. I like to allow the Holy Spirit to guide me in my own diligent study before I refer to others’ thoughts.
What Are Good Bibles For Women?
After you have determined which version you want and what purpose you will be using your Bible for, you are much better equipped to purchase the right Bible to fit your needs. Here are a few to consider.
Devotional Bibles for Women
Here are a couple of really pretty Bibles that include devotions and prayers.
New Living Translation – The THRIVE Devotional Bible for Women is for women who want to know God more. God’s desire for His children is that they live fulfilling, joy-filled lives in Christ. The author, Sheri Rose Shepherd, has devoted over 30 years of her ministry to helping women learn how to thrive in Christ, reflect God’s glory, and gain an eternal perspective.
New International Version – The NIV Women’s Devotional Bible helps you apply God’s Word to your everyday life. Includes a year of devotions written by women whose names you may recognize. All of these writers offer inspiration, candid perspectives, and wisdom from the Bible.
Study Bibles for Women
Here are a couple of different kinds of study Bibles. These do not include additional notes or devotionals which allow you to study the Bible and for yourself.
This is the study Bible that I use. I love it because it has wide margins and the text is double spaced, giving you lots of room to mark your bible and write notes. It also includes some great maps and historical context for each book of the Bible.
This Bible includes four different versions of the scriptures side by side. These parallel Bibles are great for comparing the different translations which can help you gain a better understanding of the text. I like that it includes word-for-word translations, plus paraphrased versions.
Beginners Bible for Adults
If you are a new believer, here are a couple of Bibles that will help you to become familiar with the Bible and help you develop the habit of reading the Bible every day.
This Bible is designed to help you read through the Bible in a year. The New Living Translation is easy to read and understand. Each day includes reading from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs. Plus, it has devotional entries to help you apply what you’re reading.
This Bible features notes written by Greg Laurie and is designed to help new believers grow in their faith and knowledge of God’s Word. The New Believers Bible includes some great features including the cornerstones of faith, notes about how to know you are saved, how to find a church, and how to study the Bible. It also gives a clear presentation of the gospel message.
