He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation: 16 for by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or rulers, or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 He is also the head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 19 For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. – Colossians 1:15-20
As I read these verses today the Spirit laid His hand of conviction on me.
It’s amazing how his conviction can fall so heavy and yet so gentle at the same time.
I counted how many times this passage uses the word ‘all’. 7 times.
These verses tell us that God has given Christ first place in all things.
If God has given Him first place in everything, shouldn’t I also give Him first place in all the areas of my life?
Yet, so often I don’t.
I prefer to do things according to my own feelings instead of according to His Word.
I choose to build my own kingdom instead of building His.
I’m more focused on glorifying my own name instead of exalting His.
So, today, I’m choosing to ask and allow the Holy Spirit to search and know my heart. To reveal any area that is not surrendered to Him; and to lead me in the everlasting way.
He is worthy of all of me.
Jesus, You gave all for me. You gave Your life on the cross. You are worthy of all my life lived in surrender and obedience to Your plan. Help me to follow in your footsteps by taking up my cross and dying to myself each day.
