Our world is becoming increasingly chaotic. As moms, our thoughts and concerns of what the future may hold for our children can be a source of fear and anxiety. Although there are many things that are out of our control, God has equipped us with the power of prayer. One of the greatest ways we can make a lasting impact in the lives of our children is to pray for them. Let’s look at a few of the scriptures to pray for your child.

How Do You Pray Over Your Child?

I believe that praying strategically for our children should be part of our daily routine.

Strategic prayer is an important part of how we engage in our spiritual battle. We have a very real enemy who operates in the spiritual realm. Satan is relentless in his attacks against us and our kids. God’s Word says that he is a liar (John 8:44). He wants to plant fear and doubt in our minds by causing us to believe his lies.

We need to have a plan and a strategy to fight back against him. We battle in prayer.

Praying Scriptures for Your Child

The Power of Praying Scripture for Your Child

Praying scripture is a powerful way to pray. When we pray the promises of God over our children not only are we building up our own faith, but we are speaking the very words of God – and God’s truth is more powerful than Satan’s lies!

Bible Verses to Pray Over Your Children

Here are a few scriptures to speak over your child. Use these verses to help get you started in making your own prayer strategy for your children.

Praying for Your Child’s Faith

One of the greatest ways you can pray for your child is by praying for their salvation. Use scripture to pray that they come to a saving knowledge of the truth.

in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they will not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants on account of Jesus. 6 For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. – 2 Corinthians 4:4-6 NASB

Prayer: Lord, I pray that You would bind the god of this world and not allow him to blind the mind of my child. Help her to see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ. Lead her to a saving knowledge of Your truth.

Praying for Your Child’s Character

There is so much pressure on our kids in today’s culture. Walking in goldy character and conduct is not popular or celebrated. We need to pray for our kids to value the virtues of godly living above living according to the ways of the world.

But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. – 1 Timothy 6:6

for it is God who is at work in you, both to desire and to work for His good pleasure. – Philippians 2:13

Prayer: Lord, I pray that my child would flee from the ways of this world and have a desire to pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Would you please work in her heart to both will and to work for Your good purposes.

Praying for Your Child’s Protection

An important way we can pray for our children is by praying for their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual protection. One of my favorite scriptures to pray for protection is Psalm 91.

One who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will lodge in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!” For it is He who rescues you from the net of the trapper And from the deadly plague. He will cover you with His pinions, And under His wings you may take refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and wall.- Psalm 91:1-4

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you are a refuge and a fortress. You are the Protector and Rescuer for me and for my children. Please protect my child physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Would you please keep her hidden in the shadow of your wings.

Praying for Your Child’s Relationships

Praying for your child’s relationships is a crucial component in how we strategically pray for our kids. We can be pray for their relationships with family, their peers, and authority figures. Pray for them to discover and use their gifts within the body of Christ and pray for the way they associate with non-believers.

Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, 2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. 3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility consider one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. – Philippians 2:1-4

Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. – Colossians 4:5

Prayer: Lord, I pray for my child in his relationships. I pray that you would help him to consider the needs and interests of others and not just his own. I ask that he would walk in love, humility, and wisdom with all the people you place in his path. Help him to be bold in speaking truth in love and sharing the gospel with those who do not yet know you as their Lord and Savior.
